SHIELD was keen to ensure changes to the timeline were limited to "ripples," not "waves." However, the erasure of Quake from the Marvel timeline is a dramatic event that means the timeline has been changed irrevocably. That doesn't erase Quake from existence, though instead, it leaves her a relic of a now-defunct timeline, similar to Deke. Shockingly, SHIELD fail in this mission, and Jiaying is killed by Nathaniel. The Inhuman leader has yet to even meet Daisy's father, let alone give birth to Daisy, meaning Quake fears her very existence is at stake. The episode sees SHIELD return to 1983, and they attempt to protect Quake's mother Jiaying. Worse still, Mack's parents were killed by the Chronicoms, changing his personal timeline as well. Chronicom interference ensured Wilfred Malick instead survived to 1976, and Nathaniel not only avoided his fate but successfully conducted a surgical operation to copy Quake's powers. Hydra leader Wilfred Malick was supposed to die in 1970, with his youngest son Nathaniel transported to the planet Maveth shortly after in a sick Hydra ritual. Unfortunately it's become increasingly clear the team has failed, and the MCU timeline has been irrevocably changed. SHIELD believed time flows like a river, and their goal was to only allow the slightest changes, ensuring history remained broadly on track.
